{"id":201,"date":"2009-06-30T22:28:00","date_gmt":"2009-07-01T05:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/poemsaboutonionbagels.com\/?p=201"},"modified":"2010-01-01T09:42:07","modified_gmt":"2010-01-01T17:42:07","slug":"the-parting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/poemsaboutonionbagels.com\/?p=201","title":{"rendered":"The Parting"},"content":{"rendered":"<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">I sliced through my bagel, onions and all,<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">watching two halves flank my knife and then fall;<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">And there in that instant, decided that I<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">should not stop myself with a severance so small.<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">My hand sent the blade crashing down through the plate,<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">its shattering tune did my eardrums elate;<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">I turned to the counter, told it goodbye,<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">and threw myself headlong at my now sealed fate.<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">Sawing through cupboards and saucepans and grills,<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">never before had life borne such thrills;<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">Down through the floorboards my dagger did fly<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">digging deeper and darker than oilmen&#8217;s drills.<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">Through the earth&#8217;s layers my bayonet burst,<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">&#8217;til into the caverns of Hell I&#8217;d immersed;<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">Hungering now in the fires I just sigh,<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">why didn&#8217;t I think to eat breakfast first?<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/tracker\/300317138275289474-5652892749238630639?l=poemsaboutonionbagels.blogspot.com\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/><\/span><\/address>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I sliced through my bagel, onions and all, watching two halves flank my knife and then fall; And there in that instant, decided that I should not stop myself with a severance so small.
