{"id":43,"date":"2009-01-23T14:34:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-23T21:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/poemsaboutonionbagels.com\/?p=43"},"modified":"2009-09-29T12:09:17","modified_gmt":"2009-09-29T19:09:17","slug":"on-being-pungent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/poemsaboutonionbagels.com\/?p=43","title":{"rendered":"On Being Pungent"},"content":{"rendered":"<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">I&#8217;ve seen them staring<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">sideways and shifty<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">eyelids aflutter, thinking<\/span><\/address>\n<address>I&#8217;d better be subtle<\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">but it&#8217;s too late<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">for the flare of their nostrils<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">betrays them<\/span><\/address>\n<address>What is that smell?<\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">they wonder and<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">their wandering eyes<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">inevitably fall<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">to me<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">I&#8217;ve seen d-i-s-g-u-s-t<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">written upon their faces<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">but I<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">can read<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">between the lines<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">I know<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">those looks<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">are not for me<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">but for their friends<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">for the others\u00a0for<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">the\u00a0public for<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">a-p-p-e-a-r-a-n-c-e-s<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">For when they draw<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">closed\u00a0their<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">kitchen drapes<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">these puritanical politicians<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">these religiously righteous<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">refusers\u00a0s-t-o-p<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">turning up their noses \u2014<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">they come in close<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">breathe in deep<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">and taste<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">I&#8217;ve seen them do it<\/span><\/address>\n<address>I&#8217;ve seen them all<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/tracker\/300317138275289474-3027507194405772685?l=poemsaboutonionbagels.blogspot.com\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/><\/address>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve seen them staring sideways and shifty eyelids aflutter, thinking I&#8217;d better be subtle but it&#8217;s too late for the flare of their nostrils betrays them What is that smell?
